NEW FOR 2012, the X37R-4V is Gio’s most powerful motorcycle ever. Period. A huge upgrade over its little brother the X37, the X37R-4V features an improved engine and drivetrain, revamped frame, and more performance upgrades. Think 60% more power, with a 27HP four valve single-cylinder gasoline direct-injection engine. Think Italian hand-made carburetor. Think more torque, stronger frame, and better machining. This is a beast that won’t quit and will topple the competition, day in and day out. This bike rivals the Honda CRF250R for top dirt bike crown, and wouldn’t you know it – most of the parts between the two bikes are interchangeable! The only area you won’t see the X37R-4V matching up with the Honda is price: $3999 MSRP vs. Honda CRF250R $7200!

Let’s examine the improvements over the earlier X37 model. The X37R-4V features a four-stroke, single-cylinder four valve 250cc gasoline engine. The X37R-4V get part of it name from its four valve design. In four-stroke engines, the doubling of valves from two to four yields massive power enhancements. Two air intake and two exhaust valves lead to better breathing for the cylinder and allows the engine to spin at higher RPMs. The increase in engine speed leads to power output increases, in this case 27 HP overall power. Compare this to the 17 HP of the X37, and you are seeing a 60% increase in power to the wheels! This kind of power in the light frame of the X37R-4V translates directly into acceleration and speed.

New to the X37R-4V is the Italian hand-made Dell’orto (www.dellorto.com) carburetor. The quality in design and manufacture of the carb is a huge performance factor in motorcycles, and in this category Gio has spared no expense for the 2012 X37R-4V. This high quality brand of carbs has been relied on in the majority of Italian-made motorcycles since the 1950s. As one of the most trusted brands in the Italian automotive industry, it delivers nothing but the best. And that’s what the goal was for the X37R-4V – the best. This carb mixes fuel and air perfectly at the full range of engine loads, leading to a smooth running engine that purrs when stroked.

The drivetrain system has also changed on the X37R-4V model. Most importantly, a larger rear sprocket transfers power much more efficiently to the driven rear wheel. The sprocket is almost double the size of the original X37’s. A larger sprocket translates to more torque, especially in the low end. This big kick will be noticeable instantly, especially in the acceleration and hill climbing department. A necessity for off-roading, great low-end torque is a must have.

With engine and drivetrain improvements come cooling improvements to keep the bike running well. A more efficiently engineered engine compartment improves air flow throughout the entire bike frame. This increase in air flow is great for cooling the engine. As well, the X37-4V features a larger, more powerful dual radiator with a larger reservoir. More cooling fluid equals more efficient cooling, meaning the engine can go for longer at higher loads without damage or having to stop to cool down. The water-cooled system was already a great feature of this bike and now has been improved. Many other model dirt bikes don’t feature water-cooling, decreasing their range and comfort levels for the rider.

Housing these awesome improvements is a slightly larger frame. Still very manageable for any size adult, this beefier but streamlined frame is perfectly balanced for riding. By adding strength, the engineers at Gio have ensured this bike is meant to take abuse. Jumps, boulders, impacts, tight turns – the X37-4V can take it all, all day long. The smooth front fork action from the suspension equates to a comfortable and forgiving ride. And with a suspension system identical to that of a Honda CRF250, making adjustments or swapping parts is easy.

Other changes on the X37R-4V include better trim and hardware, of higher quality aluminum and stainless steel. All these parts are precision CNC-machined and welded, including levers, foot pedals, handle bars and levers, and various other engine and frame parts. These look truly beautiful and glimmer on the X37R-4V. As well, Gio has gone from a dual muffler system to a single muffler system, stripping some of the weight off the original model for better performance.

On top of the improvements listed above, the X37R-4V showcases all the great features that made the X37 a great bike. The four-stroke, single cylinder 250cc engine features Over-Head Cam OHC) design with a 70x64.8 mm bore and stroke. Of course one of the best features of the bike – its visuals and paint job – is in intact, and still one of the best in the industry. The custom-designed skulll emblazoned graphics go perfectly with the eye-popping orange and black color scheme. Chrome and black steel round out this stunning bike.

Large size 21”/18” tires feature deep off-road treads and durable wall construction for the most punishing features and obstacles. This bike can conquer any terrain. The pressure and splash lubrication system uses 15W-40 synthetic engine oil to keep things simple and run smooth. A CDI ignition system provides incredibly reliable sparking.

Transmission comes in the form of a wide-ratio five-speed manual style, ensuring maximum control over the bike. The transmission uses a standard 1-N-2-3-4-5 gear layout and features a manual clutch for added control. The wet multi-plate clutch features dura-coated clutch basket fingers for extra durability and lifetime. The "wet" immersion in lubricating fluid constantly cleans internal surfaces and results in smoother performance and longer clutch/transmission life. The multi-plate clutch design is similar to that used in F1 race cars.

In the handling category, the X37R-4V excels. With smooth front fork action on high quality headstem bearings, the X37R-4V rides like a dream. This is made possible through precision manufactured front and rear shock absorbers, designed for off-roading. The front forks use a standard adjustable inverted and hydraulic dual shock system. The aluminum alloy 56 mm front shocks (versus Honda's 47 mm shocks) have a huge 160 mm of travel. The mammoth rear shock has 110 mm of travel and feature a massive 95 mm diameter steel coil with rebound and pre-load adjustability. The nitro-gas oil-damped shocks also feature adjustable coil travel and a huge gas reservoir with adjustable pressure nozzle.

Instantaneous precision braking is provided by the huge front and rear alloy brake discs. These highly-engineered discs are unique to the X37 models, measuring a massive 270 mm diameter on the front and 240 mm rear diameter. They are gripped by hydraulic dual piston calipers connected by reinforced armored brake cables. These brakes stop on a dime and are absolutely necessary for the type of dangerous terrain your X37R-4V will see. Adding to the excellent handling are fully-adjustable steel alloy 820 mm handlebars with CNC-machined levers and controls.

The X37R-4V is designed with full-size adult riders in mind. This truly is a formidable piece of machinery with power to match. The Yuanxing off-road tires (F: 80/100-21", R: 110/100-18") have a unique tread pattern perfect for dirt, rocks, mud, and sand, with huge grooves. The front measures 21” while the rear measures 18” – optimized for adults. Starting the bike is a breeze with its elegant electric push-button ignition. If conditions are too cold, a backup kick start is included as well. A 6.7L fuel tank provides extra hours of fun without refueling.

All of these features truly make the X37R-4V an indomitable off-road machine. Head to head against the Honda CRF250R, the X37R-4V stands its ground and holds it own, matching, and in many cases now topping the Honda’s specs. The X37R-4V takes it to the next level – you’ll be a believer too once you try one.
